Just a couple days prior to it opening up for the masses, I got a preview of the newest, and largest free standing White Castle! However, that does make me wonder if there is a bigger White Castle that is connected or inside of something else...
I grew up in Queens New York, and while our family preferred Mickey D's, White Castle was an option. It wasn't until I reached high school and started to participate in activities that kept me out a little later at night and having an appetite for eating whatever that I was properly introduced to "the crave".
I didn't enjoy it long because I moved away from New York right after graduating high school and everywhere I went since, didn't have WC locations. I might've grabbed the frozen kind here and there, but it just wasn't the same. I don't eat fast food anymore, but I took a couple bites of the White Castle slider during the preview and it immediately sent me back to Northern Blvd in the mid 90s! It tasted just how I remembered! The onions. The steamed bun (or is it everything?). It was a very nostalgic experience. The location itself is big, bright, and clean! Lots of things to look at on the walls, Coke Freestyle machines, and even automated napkin dispensers and sprinkled throughout the dining room. It is kind of an open kitchen too so you can see what is going on back there.
White Castle is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, so there are a few references to that in the restaurant as well. Eventually this location would like to be open for 24 hours, but for right now, they'll be open from 7am-1am. Serving breakfast all day, plant based options, and chicken, White Castle has something for everyone! Now open at 11595 Daryl Carter Pkwy, Orlando, FL 32836.
